Use a gentle detergent to wash everything that touches your infant’s skin, from towels and blankets to even your clothes. This will help avoid any itches or irritation.

2. Baby Skin Care Products

Use a gentle product specially designed for babies’ skin. Make sure that they don’ contain any dyes, fragrance, phthalates, and parabens — all of which could cause skin irritation. You can also talk to your pediatrician to see if a product is appropriate.

3. Dressing for success

Dressing your baby in cotton clothes may help to avoid irritation. Don’t forget to use a gentle detergent.

4. Avoiding Skin Problems at Bath Time

Remember, newborn skin is soft and delicate. Keep your baby’s skin hydrated by bathing her in warm water for only 3 to 5 minutes. Avoid letting your baby sit or play or soak for long in soapy water. Immediately after the bath, apply baby lotion or moisturizer while their skin is still wet, and then pat dry instead of rubbing.

5. Nailing nappy rash

If your baby has red skin around the diaper area, you’re dealing with diaper rash. Try not to worry; make sure your baby’s skin is kept clean and dry and have a chat with your Health Visitor or GP for additional support.
